Why You Should Consider Getting Into Copywriting

My mentor said it best years ago.

He looked me in the eyes and told me: “Every businessperson who wants to make it big in this world must sell through the written word.”

I’m not sure I believed him at the time.

That is, until I took a closer look at some of the wealthiest, most successful legends in business. Bill Gates… Steve Jobs… Oprah…

The power of words was directly responsible for each of these inspiring people (and countless others) to be dominant in their respective fields.

That was my inspiration.

My emails, video sales letters, and webinars now consistently get high conversions in the internet marketing and digital publishing space.

I never really set out to be a great copywriter; I simply wanted to be an awesome marketer and businessman.

While I didn't have a ton of resources available to me when I was getting into copywriting, there are a ton of great resources for you out there today.

I'm going to cover some of the basics of copywriting to help you get started, and I'll also let you know some great resources that you can use to learn even more about selling through the art of the written word.

The Four Types Of Copywriting

As you're getting into copywriting, you'll find that there are essentially four type of copywriting that you'll be doing.

If you can master these four types of copywriting, you'll make a ton of money.

Email marketing remains one of the best ways to make money online, and you can make a lot of money selling either your own products or doing email copywriting for other people as a freelancer or an agency.

I started out as an email marketer, and I went on to sell millions of dollars worth of products using this method.

Written Sales Letters

Written sales letters are a direct response marketing technique where you use the written word to persuade the reader to purchase a product.

You'll typically use written sales letters to sell lower ticket items, and you'll really want to focus on learning how to sell benefits instead of features.

Video Sales Letters

Video sales letters are similar in structure to written sales letters, but they're a little bit more in-depth.

As the name implies, you'll be doing the pitch over video.

Face-to-camera is ideal, but you can also do video over PowerPoints if you aren't comfortable on camera.

You'll use video sales letters to sell mid-ticket items.

You can think of webinars as being like a teacher in front of a classroom.

However, it's a digital environment and you could have hundreds of people in the classroom instead of 20 or 30.

Webinars are a great way to educate people about a product and answer any questions that they might have.

You'll need webinars if you want to sell higher ticket items (and make more money!).

The 5-Step Copywriting Formula

When you're starting out in copywriting, it can be a little bit overwhelming.

To get over that overwhelm, it's great to be able to follow a proven formula until you can create your own style and format.

I've used this simple 5-step copywriting formula to sell millions of dollars worth of products.

No matter what type of copywriting you're doing, you'll need to grab your audience's attention in the introduction.

It's important to establish what's in it for the audience immediately so they see the value in continuing on.

Stories are one of the best ways to really connect with people and help them understand the value in what you're promoting.

It's all about the journey in copywriting, so you want to take your audience on an immersive trip.

If you've read anything about digital marketing, you've probably heard the saying that content is king.

And it's true.

Providing your audience with really valuable content is the best way to make a sale because it helps show them what makes the product so valuable.

It's time to address the elephant in the room.

But you don't want to do it abruptly.

After taking your audience on a journey and providing them with valuable content, it's time to start working into your sales pitch.

Working in effective transitions is an art that every single copywriter needs to perfect.

People love to buy, but they hate being sold.

That's why it's so important for you to make them feel like they're getting incredible value in purchasing the product that you're promoting.

If you don't have a great offer, people aren't going to buy.
