My Proven Email Marketing Model

I have successfully built an online business that earned me $500,000 to $1 Million per month using nothing other than email marketing.

You might be wondering what makes email so special. After all, these days social media is getting all the attention. This may be, but an astonishing number of people still use email on a daily basis and a lot of business deals and transactions occur via email. Here are a few statistics for you to consider:

  • There are 4.6 billion email addresses worldwide (Source: The Radical Group).
  • A whopping 144.8 billion emails are sent every day.
  • Email marketing has generated $2.47 billion in sales (Source: Forrester Research).
  • For every $1 spent on email marketing the average return on investment is $44.25 (Source: Email Report).

You simply CANNOT overlook  these numbers!

Another reason why email is the king of marketing is that you have complete control.

When you market via social media companies, they make the rules and they can change the rules—anytime they want to. I have personally had my Google AdWords account shut down literally overnight. That account was generating over $600,000 a year. There was no notice and no explanation.

When you market via email, YOU OWN the email list. You decide what to do with that list. No one can take that list away from you. Period. And your  email list becomes an asset that is literally worth millions of dollars.

Email lists have truly formed the backbone of my information business.

And here is why email marketing works so well—people are CHOOSING to OPT-IN. They are giving you their permission to send them emails.

What can possibly be better than people giving you permission to market to them?

Plus, you are speaking directly with the customer every time you send an email. This allows you to develop a relationship with each person on that list. To the customer, you are seen as a real person, rather than a faceless corporation. You become a friend, rather than a complete stranger.

The contact on your list then becomes warm traffic, rather than a cold click.

The people on your list will come to trust you. And when people trust, they are more willing to buy. After all, there is no better recommendation that a personal recommendation.

And this is what will ensure your affiliate marketing is hugely successful.

In order to apply email marketing to affiliate marketing, there is a simple 5-step system I have developed.

Choose your niche.

If you go to or another top affiliate site, you will see many different categories of products. Some categories sell better than others.

Within each category, there are many subcategories called niches. For example, in the Health category, Women’s Weight Loss is a niche.

Ideally, you want to  find a niche  that you are passionate about. You will be able to sell something so much more effectively if you can honestly endorse it. If there is no passion, it will show in your email.

You also want to choose a high-quality product. The people on your email list TRUST you so this product needs to be a Level 10 in quality. If you promote anything less, you will lose credibility in the eyes of the people on your list. They will hold YOU accountable and you will lose your relationship with them.

And if that happens, you will lose your business.

Set up an opt-in page.

The No. 1 goal of an email marketer is to collect email addresses.

When people click through to this page, you will offer them a FREE gift in return for their email address.

Your opt-in page needs four key elements to be a high converter:

  • A great  headline that tells the prospect precisely what they will get when they provide you their email address.
  • The opt-in box that is very visible. It should be accompanied by clear instructions on what to do.
  • An image of the free gift they will receive. This will help generate excitement.
  • Bullet points that present the value of your free gift. These greatly increase conversions.

How do people find your opt-in page? You drive traffic to it. You can do this by using another email marketer’s targeted email list. This is called a solo ad. It costs money, but allows you to access hundreds of potential leads all at once. You can also advertise through Google AdWords and Facebook at a minimal cost.

The key is once you generate that email lead, you will be able to market to that lead for FREE for the rest of your life. You will NEVER have to pay to market to the leads on your email list again!

Choose a winning affiliate offer.

Go to the top affiliate sites and check them out. Which affiliates have the best marketing? Which ones send out the best emails? Which ones have the best product?

Act like a customer and check these things out. Sign up for their newsletter. Watch their videos. Be selective. You only want the best.

Create a FREE gift.

You can also offer a free eBook, a workbook, or an audio or video file. Don’t worry, these can be very easy to create. The key is to make sure you are offering incredible value to the people who visit your opt-in page.

You need to offer something of value in exchange for someone’s Email address. If you offer a free gift with great value, your conversion rates will skyrocket and your list will grow exponentially.

You can either create the free gift yourself or hire someone to do it for you. Either way, you will have something of value that people want badly enough to give you their email address.

Send out your email.

Once you have your opt-in page and free gift set up, your email list will begin to grow.  And you can also promote a product to them, which will help offset the cost of driving traffic.

Now that you have your email list, you can actually send out emails to that list. The emails you send will promote the affiliate sales page of the affiliate product you have chosen to endorse.

The best time to promote a product is during a product launch. You can promote other products that sell well on a daily basis but never underestimate the power of a product launch.

Just remember, in your email you are NOT actually selling the product. I repeat, you are NOT selling the product. You have only three jobs as an email marketer.

  • Create Excitement: You absolutely must get people excited. If they aren’t excited, they won’t click. If they don’t click, your email is useless and so is the sales page.
  • Edify and Create Expectation: You need to make the reader curious enough to click on the link. One of the best ways to do this is to tell them a story.
  • Generate Clicks: If you have done your first two jobs well, this one should fall into place. This is the goal behind the email—to get them to click through to the sales page.

That’s it!

Here is an example of an email from my book Email Lifeline that shows all three jobs functions in action:

Notice the email subject line? It generates excitement and curiosity. This is critical. If the subject line of your email doesn’t generate enough excitement and curiosity, the recipient won’t even bother to open the email.

Then I simply tell a story, one that adds to the intrigue. This story will entice the reader to click on the link because they just have to know what I have found out. They just have to know which seven foods will help them lose weight.

And all of this is essentially what you will be doing in Phase 1 of the 2 Phase system.

Apply Email Marketing to Phase 1

In our free Phase 1 workshop, one of the things you will learn is how to set up a lead capture page. This allows you to get more leads and build your list.

I cannot tell you the importance of this page. This is the OPT-IN page. It is critical to getting people to opt-in to your email list. And when you get this page right, it is truly magical.

Your one-page opt-in site will ultimately become the engine for your Email Marketing Business. This is what generates quality leads to turn into sales.

Sadly, there are so many marketers that send traffic directly to the sales page, instead of going to the opt-in page first. If you do this:

  • You will risk losing most of that traffic.
  • You will have to pay for every single click. You will even have to pay for the click if the person has visited your page in the past.
  • You might be fortunate enough to have your sales page to convert at 4%, but that is only if it’s really good. However, even at this conversion rate, you are still losing 96% of your traffic in the form of people who don’t buy.

However, if you drive your traffic to an opt-in page first, where they can give you their email address, you can then send them an email to entice them to go to the sales page. When you do this, you can get conversions as high as 70%.

Now, instead of losing 96% of your visitors, you’re capturing 70% of them. Plus, you get to send emails to them again and again!

But that’s not all! When you attend the LIVE Phase 1 workshop, you will learn how to build an Automated Traffic Engine. This is a completely new strategy. You have never seen this before because I have never shared it before.

Free Targeted Facebook Leads - Step 2 The Opt-In Page

The opt-in page is the page where we capture a visitor’s Email address and in return give them the Free Gift we created in Step #1. The ONLY goal of this page is to have people “opt-in” to receive that free gift, so we want to make the page super simple.

But why do we use an opt-in page? Why wouldn’t we just send these visitors to BUY our stuff?

I know what you’re probably thinking because I was in the same place when I started. Surely, by giving things away for free, we’re losing money?


  1. By having an opt-in page, around 50% of visitors will sign up to get that free gift. If you had a sales page, you’d be lucky to get <1% to make a purchase.
  2. Instead of a one-off sale to <1% of our visitors, we now captured their email address. We can use this list of emails for a lifetime of communication. We can sell to our email list subscribers over and over again instead of a one-time sale, if that.
  3. We are building a RELATIONSHIP! This is important. People are more likely to buy from you, or the products you endorse if they TRUST YOU. By emailing your list valuable content and related offers on a regular basis, you’re building trust! In doing so, you’re more likely to make some nice commissions too 🙂

How to Set Your Opt-in Page Up In Just 4 Easy Steps!

As I mentioned earlier, we want our opt-in page to be simple. Remember, the only goal of this page is to get someone to enter their email address for our Free Gift.

We will then use that email list to market to over and over again to generate revenue.

With that in mind, here’s the 4-step process we PERSONALLY use in every single one of our businesses.

This is a tried and tested formula that has helped us generate millions of leads and millions of dollars in sales:

Opt-In Page 4 Key Elements

#1 – The Perfect Headline

The headline is, without a doubt, one of the MOST important parts of any opt-in page. The headline is the line or two of text at the top of the page that is going to entice people to sign up to get your Free Gift.

Every headline should do TWO things:

  1. Excite. We have a very short window to get someone excited to engage with our message.
  2. Hook. Why you? Why your free offer?  We need to quickly articulate exactly what they will learn by giving their Email address.

For example, in the earlier opt-in page, the headline was “The 5 Daily Secrets That Turn Dreams Into Reality”

I chose that headline because it did the 2 things VERY well.

  1. Excite. Turn Dreams Into Reality? Enough said.
  2. Hook. I just told you that there are only 5 things you need to do to start turning dreams into reality. You want to know what those 5 secrets are, right?

If a headline has these 2 elements, it’s good to go!

To make things even easier, here’s a free template you can use… just fill in what your free offer teaches, it’s THAT simple!

“REVEALED: Free Offer Reveals How to [__________] in [____] Days…”

#2 – Bullet Points

On every opt-in page, I like to include 3 or 4 bullet points.

But, why bullet points?

As mentioned earlier, we want this opt-in page to be short and to the point. Remember, someone just gave you a few minutes of their time – this means that you have a very small window to get their attention. They won’t have time to read paragraphs!

Stick to concise and exciting bullet points.

These should focus on what your free offer teaches and WHY they should download it. Think BENEFITS.

Keep them simple. Short. Powerful.

#3 – Free Gift Image 

This step is super simple. You don’t have to create the image yourself. You can inexpensively get someone to do it for you.

Remember Fiverr? It’s an online marketers’ best friend. Just about every service on the site costs $5.

For our Free Report in this example, guess what we’ll need… A cover image!

Instead of flailing around trying to figure out how to use Photoshop, you can go on Fiverr and have someone create it for you. You’ll have plenty of options.

I just typed in “e-book cover design”:

You’ll be able to find someone great who can quickly produce a professional looking cover.

When it’s done, simply drop that image in and this step is complete! Here it is in our example…

#4 – The ‘Box’

The ‘Box’ is where we get people to enter their email address. Without this, we will not be able to build a list and we won’t generate any revenue.

While this step is important, it’s also super easy. There are plenty of systems out there that allow you to easily set this up like Sendlane, LeadPages, and Clickfunnels.

I personally recommend Sendlane (because it’s one of my businesses and I can give it my full stamp of approval). Plus I offer a Free 30-Day Trial!

Each one will allow you to copy and paste the ‘Box’ directly to your website!

As you can see…

All Of The Elements Help To Drive The Opt-in

  • We use descriptive words that paint a picture. Notice the use of words like “poison” and “superpowers”.
  • It breaks down the specific benefits they are going to get.
  • It gives a clear Call to Action.

Even the text in the button was written with a purpose in mind.

Pro Tip: After running thousands of tests, we’ve discovered that saying “FREE INSTANT ACCESS” converts better than any other text.

STEP #3 – SEGWAY Pages

In the past, I suggested sending new subscribers straight to an offer. Doing so increases the opportunity to quickly generate some sales.

While this strategy works well, there’s always room for improvement…

Put yourself in the shoes of your new subscriber for a second. They don’t know much about you. They’re focused on getting this free report that they just gave you their email address for. If you put an offer in front of them right away, how likely are they to respond?

There needs to be some kind of bridge between the opt-in page and the offer.

That’s where the Segway Page comes in. Here’s an example…

This Segway Page Alone Is Why I’m Able To Get Free Targeted Facebook Leads, Even Though I’m Actually Paying For The Clicks!

As you can see, it’s a simple page that redirects their attention from the gift. It also presells them on the offer that I’m about to show them.

I now use this in EVERY single one of my funnels.


Because it CONSISTENTLY boosts sales by up to 65%, which means 65% more money for the same effort!

I’m serious. This simple-to-copy page is a big reason why I’m so successful. It has been responsible for HUGE growth in my business.

As you can see, it’s not a complicated page.

Segway Page 4 Key Elements

There Are 4 Keys That Make The Segway Page Work:

#1 Headline

Hooks their attention and directs their focus onto a new topic.

Big button at the bottom with clear directions. There’s no confusion about what the next step is.

What I’ve found is that only about 50% of the visitors click the button to go to the next page. Yet, my sales increased by 65%. What’s going on?

It’s Simple: Micro-Commitments!

This is a very well known strategy to copywriters and sales people, but one that very few business owners actually use.

In fact, you can look back through centuries of sales tactics and see this EXACT method in play. Why? Because humans have not changed and will not change. This strategy will work forever.

Pro Tip: Make sure your Segway page is no longer then a short scroll. This is a MICRO-COMMITMENT to read not a full-blown sales page!

Look… If you don’t do anything else with this blog post… be sure to implement a Segway Page. THIS is the step that can make the biggest impact… period.

Remember, as with all our sales strategies we want this to be STORY driven… It has ONE goal, to GET THE CLICK.

By now your visitors have landed on your opt-in page. Your amazing page you set up in 4 steps has led them to put in their email address to download that Free Gift.

What’s next?

Maximizing Profits

Since we’re spending money to send visitors to our Free Gift, we want to recoup as much money from the ad spend as possible.

The best way to do this is to offer a LOW-TICKET product. As a general rule, this is an offer priced BELOW $50.

In the example I’ve been sharing, we sent the traffic to a free book offer where the customer only has to pay $7 for shipping and handling. That’s the perfect kind of offer for this funnel.

But you don’t have to have your own book… or even your own product.

By looking at places like Clickbank or JVZoo, you can promote OTHER people’s products and make a % commission on every sale you make.

The MAJOR consideration to take here is this…

Regardless of WHAT the offer is. Whether it’s your own offer OR an affiliate offer… Make sure it has a CONVERTING FUNNEL in place.

You want to make sure the offer has upsells/downsells and other offers in the funnel to maximize profit potential and to recoup as much ad-spend as possible!

A good way to do this is to look at the stats the vendor will provide, such as EPC.

EPC = Earnings Per Click gives a good idea of how much money an affiliate can expect to make from every person they send to this offer. (Obviously, the higher the better, but make sure it’s RELEVANT to your main free offer.)

So, by now you’ve got the opt-in… Your visitor has asked for the Free Gift, gone through the Segway Page and landed on the Thank You Page offer (a low-ticket item, remember).

So what’s next?

If you’ve done this right and the offer is solid, you would have already recouped a large portion of your ad spend on your low-ticket Thank You Page product.

But, don’t panic if you haven’t…

… that’s where the autoresponder comes in.

An autoresponder is a piece of software that allows you to AUTOMATICALLY email the list you’ve just built..

You can set an autoresponder up so that it emails your subscribers 1 day, 3 days, 10 days (whatever you want) after they subscribe.

The autoresponder I use is a sequence of emails (I usually do 10 days) that allows me to generate MORE money on the backend from people that didn’t purchase my Thank You Page offer (and BOOSTING profits from anyone that did)!

The main goal of any email autoresponder series is to build a relationship with our list, give value and sell more products that will be of value to them (a win-win all round)!

Here’s a breakdown of the 10-day autoresponder sequence that is personally responsible for generating millions of dollars in my business.

10-Day Autoresponder Sequence

Day 1 – Thank You.  This email’s purpose is to thank them for taking action and to provide them the link to the free download again. PLUS, I like to add a short P.S. reminding them to check out the thank you page offer they missed.

Day 2 – Story Pitch. This email will be using a story to sell the low-ticket offer that is on the Thank You Page. People resonate with stories, so instead of just telling them to buy the product – we want to show them how using the product can impact their life. Tell a story!

Day 3 – HARD Pitch. This email sells the same offer that was promoted on the Thank You Page, reminding them of the core product benefit.

Day 4 – Final Chance. We tell people that it’s their final chance to get in. This is called ‘scarcity’. Tell them this is the final time you’ll be emailing them about it, and they need to take action NOW if they want it. By doing this, more people will take action as they don’t want to miss out.

Day 5 & 6 – Content. Give as much value as possible here. Give away your best content for free and people will be more willing to pay you for the rest (if, of course, they like what they have already received)! Building a profitable email list is all about the relationship. Days 5 & 6 are relationship building days! This will pay many dividends over the lifetime of your list.

Day 7 – High-Ticket Story Pitch. Today will be a story based selling email for a HIGH-TICKET offer ($297/$397 or higher). Again, this doesn’t have to be your OWN offer… but make sure it has a funnel in place. We’re doing a high-ticket offer today to maximize profits. The best way to find an offer to send out is to look at places like Clickbank or JVZoo and search for the topic of your free offer.

Day 8 – HARD Pitch. The same as day 3, but we’re going to be promoting the high-ticket product today.

Day 9 – Content Pitch. Give some valuable content, and remind them with a soft pitch about the high-ticket offer we are promoting.

Day 10 – Last Chance. The same as day 4, but for the high-ticket offer.


So what does this all mean? What are the NUMBERS behind this?

It’s all very well teaching you this stuff, but does it ACTUALLY work?

Well, numbers don’t lie…

Here’s a breakdown of a recent campaign we ran using this EXACT 5 step system I just revealed above.

We set up the ENTIRE campaign in just 5 hours.

After it had been set up, we invested $9,377.64 in getting 30,843 visitors to our opt-in page.

Out of those 30,843 visitors, we had 16,452 people sign up for our free report (53% of everyone that saw our opt-in page gave us their email).

I recently built a list of over 10,000 people in just 10 days. And you know what? It was EASY.

You know what banner ads are right?

Banner ads are the advertisements on websites, usually in the header or the right-hand column.

Well, banner ads were all the craze with every internet marketer back in the day. They’re still on almost every website, but they’re becoming less and less effective now.

Why? Because people hardly even look at banner ads these days.

After seeing thousands and thousands of desperate advertising attempts through banner ads, people have learned to just tune them out. Many people literally do not even look at the sidebars with banners on websites anymore.

The images above show 3 successive issues of an email newsletter that used eye-tracking software to show how an audience viewed the page over time.

The software tracked steady viewing of the content on the right, but attention to the left sidebar, which contained banner ads, showed a profound difference over the 3 separate newsletters.

The study revealed: “In the first issue, almost 80% of newsletter readers scan some part of the ad in the left-hand column. By the second issue, that number is cut in half, and then halved again in the third viewing – bottoming out at 20%.

It’s like what happens when you have a fan on while you sleep. At first, you’re aware of the sound of the fan. But after a while, you don’t notice it anymore. Your mind classifies the sound of the fan as a baseline occurrence and you tune it out.

Yes, you heard that right. Quizzes are a surprisingly effective way to build your list. When these quizzes collect email addresses at the end, they’re referred to as quiz funnels. 

Quiz funnels are a series of quiz-based questions designed to entice and engage your leads, to systematically convert them into subscribers.

This is a unique alternative to the traditional opt-in pages that are saturating the internet right now. It’s a fun and engaging way to build a list that creates a strong bond with your future subscribers.

You know what I’m talking about. Some popular examples are quizzes like “What’s your spirit animal?” or “What superhero are you?”

So How Do Quiz Funnels work?

Simple! When the prospect clicks the link, they’re asked to answer a series of questions. Then the prospect provides their email address in order to see the results. Can you see where I’m going with this?

We’ve come across these or even taken them without actually realizing the biggest benefit they have for internet marketers…


Quizzes are a powerful way to build your list, yet very subtle from the perspective of a potential subscriber.

And people actually enjoy it, so it’s a win-win scenario from the get go!

It All Starts With A Simple Question.

This simple question is the hook, which gets people to click and take the quiz.

Questions are one of the best ways of getting someone’s attention.

People get captivated by questions. It’s just a part of our nature. We’re driven by curiosity.

Asking a question is the best way to get a response from someone. Any online dating expert will tell you this.

Questions also create an interactive environment. It’s not a one-sided form of communication like “Hey you! Sign up for my list!”

Interaction is so important.

If people aren’t engaged, they won’t give you the time of day. Honestly, people are savvy. If you don’t provide value and engage them, you don’t stand a chance.

That’s the beauty of the quiz funnel… 

The answer is the question and the question is the answer.

Quizzes Need To Spark Their Curiosity

A distinguishing X factor that quizzes have is that they spark CURIOSITY. The promise of a solution to our questions naturally triggers a deep curiosity within us.

Humans are curious beings. We want to know everything, especially if something is hinted at. Curiosity drives us in so many ways. We can’t resist the temptation of knowledge.

Having a curiosity-fueling quiz funnel is like fishing with dynamite. It’s almost unfair.

There are so many reasons why quiz funnels are enticing:

  1. They cut through all of the noise and clutter online
  2. They’re a breath of fresh air – Something different than,“Oh, another opt-in page…
  3. Quizzes are EASY
  4. They’re effective – People want to find answers and will join your list to do so.
  5. Quizzes provide value
  6. They place you as an expert – You give them the answers to their questions.
  7. Quizzes hit a pain point and provide a solution

Quiz funnels don’t even feel like sales funnels.

As I said before, quizzes are attention-grabbing, fun and interactive. The prospect feels more like they’re learning and having a good time as opposed to being a marketing target.

I’ve even taken some of these quizzes and happily given my email address. And I still do. That’s how effective quiz funnels are.

Remember, people hate being sold to, but they love finding answers. If you provide something that intrigues them without them feeling harassed, that’s the sweet spot.

Share Factor

Some of the most viral content on the internet are quizzes. Just take a look at your Facebook feed. People are sharing them all of the time. The social sharing factor of quizzes is undeniable.

People are inclined to share quizzes and quiz results. They’re fun and interesting, so why not? It also gets everyone involved.

Like I said before, it’s not a one-way street. Quizzes are interactive and customizable, making people more inclined to participate.

When people share your quiz, that’s free marketing too! The viral aspect of quizzes amplifies your exposure. This will build your list even more without you having to do anything.

Combine curiosity, fun and shareablity and you have a winning formula.

What Does it Look Like?


Let’s get into a full example of a quiz funnel.

In the initial link, ask your audience a simple question. Leave just enough suspense to pique their curiosity.

Here’s what it might look like:

When people click that link, they’re given a few simple questions to answer.

At the end of the questions, the prospect is presented with an opt-in box. They have to enter their email address in order to see the quiz results. Most people are so interested in the results that they’ll enter their email without hesitation.

After gladly entering their email address, they see their results. The results are not just a thank you page. This page is where you build your relationship. You might present an offer or a call-to-action.

People have already made a series of micro-commitments so they’re primed to go further along. They have click momentum, if you will.

The other benefit here is that by providing a captivating quiz with results that are hopefully good, you’ve already established yourself as an expert.

Numbers Don’t Lie

Everything discussed above is theory.

It makes a lot of sense, right?

However, as business builders, we can’t only rely on theory and what makes sense. We need some data to back it up.

You shouldn’t put your time, money and energy into something unless the numbers reveal that it’s worth it.

Quiz funnels stand up to the test. I’ve got the analytics to prove it.

So here you go:

You see that? 10,145 highly engaged opt-ins. And it’s been rising since that screenshot was taken.

There is also a 62.89% completion rate. This means that 62.89% of people who landed on the quiz funnel page answered all of the questions and entered their email address.

That high of an engagement rate simply doesn’t happen with traditional opt-in pages.

I’m going to go over a case study where I generated an email list of 10,145 people from scratch, just by using quiz funnels.

You’ve probably noticed that opt-in pages seem to be everywhere. Some people are getting “opt-in page blindness” where they don’t even see them anymore, or they enter in fake email addresses.

Quiz funnels allow you to stay one step ahead and they also give your visitors a new experience.

When set up right, quiz funnels can give an opt-in rate equal to or higher than traditional opt-in pages because people aren’t used to seeing quiz pages.

Filling them out is also a micro-commitment from the visitor, which means they’re far more likely to give you their email address and are better qualified leads.

You’ve probably heard the word. You might even have a pretty good idea of what eCommerce is. But, today we’re going to show you how anyone can start their OWN eCommerce business right from their own home.

No inventory. No packaging. No shipping. No headaches.

The Internet connects people from all over the world and creates new opportunities every day. This means that you can find whatever you want, whenever you want and have it in your hands before you can even say “What is eCommerce?”

Simply stated, eCommerce is “commercial transactions conducted electronically on the Internet.” Pretty broad definition, right? It’s essentially an umbrella term for any transaction conducted online.

For our purposes, we’ll narrow the definition a little more.

For a reference point, is the giant and prototypical example of eCommerce. Ebay and Etsy are 2 other giants in this area.

In 2015, there was OVER $335 BILLION in eCommerce sales in just the United States. And major companies like Target and Wal-Mart have started investing in beefing up their online presence.

Needless to say, big things are happening… and you just need a small slice of it to make a significant profit.

Commerce is Evolving

Throughout history, most commerce was done face-to-face. As new technologies arose, they too became platforms for commerce.

Direct mail, telephone, radio, even infomercials and home shopping television shows had their moments in the sun.  The problem is that most of these technologies have major drawbacks.

For example, radio and television can reach a large number of people, yet they are impersonal. Being a one-way channel of communication, they also have to use another platform to actually conduct the transaction (like calling a phone number to order a product on tv).

Direct mail and telephone are two-way communication channels, yet come up with their own sets of disadvantages.  With telephone, you can’t reach a large number of people and there is no visual aspect to it. With direct mail, it can take months between advertisement and purchase. Also, the response rate for direct mail is pathetically low.

I don’t even want to spend any more time discussing these because they’re all outdated. The point is that eCommerce dominates all other means of commerce in every way. eCommerce truly is the FUTURE.

eCommerce combines the best of both worlds. It has the dynamic qualities of face-to-face commerce with the ability to reach anyone anywhere. Now that’s a recipe for success!

The Internet is a Place of Business

With eCommerce, you have an actual place of business. Well, a virtual place. But it’s still a place. On your website, customers can see pictures, read detailed descriptions and place orders.

eCommerce is the only other form of commerce, besides face-to-face that has an actual place of business as well. It’s the virtual version of having a store. All of the other mediums (direct mail, television…etc.) are more like different ways of advertising than an actual place of business.

Additionally, the internet is a ‘place’ you can be from any physical location. Meaning you can run an eCommerce business from anywhere in the world, especially if you implement some of the strategies I detail below.

eCommerce is Dynamic

Anything on the Internet can change as fast as something done face-to-face (and even faster in certain aspects).

Need to change a product description? Easy.

Address a customer question? Got it.

Refund an order? Done.

The only way to keep up with a fast-changing world is to leverage dynamic technologies. eCommerce is a great way to do that.

eCommerce is Scalable

Another X factor that eCommerce has is scalability. When it comes to eCommerce, conducting 5,000 transactions is not much different than conducting 5 transactions.

Let’s compare it with a physical store.

This is a proven strategy that has worked for thousands of people, but please know that results may not be typical nor expected for every person.

There are 2 ways to create a presence online, one is more advanced and one is so simple you can have an eCommerce store set up by the end of the day.

1. Create Your Own eCommerce Website

The first way to create an online presence is to do it yourself. But before you even consider doing this, I have an important piece of advice that will save you thousands of hours and headaches: This is NOT for beginners.

If you were to build your own eCommerce website from scratch, there are a lot of factors to consider…

You’ll have to…

  • Figure out how to create a website
  • Build a way for people to place orders
  • Get a way to process credit cards
  • Find out how to ship your products
  • Etc.

Do you know how to do all of this? I know I don’t.

All of this is completely overwhelming for most beginners, which is why I recommend the second way…

2. Use An Existing eCommerce Platform

Thanks to the wonders of technology, there are many platforms that provide you with all of the tools to create and run your eCommerce business. Why waste precious time when you can have everything done for you?

After you’ve created an online presence, the next step is to get products to sell. A stockpile of products waiting to be sold is known as inventory.

To sell physical products online, you need inventory, right? Actually, no!

This is a HUGE misconception in the eCommerce world. You don’t need to stockpile a bunch of inventory before you can start selling.

If you rush into buying a bunch of inventory, you might have a stockpile of goods that just sits in a warehouse and never sells.

Starting your eCommerce business with a bad inventory investment immediately puts you in a hole. However, there is a way to get around risk… 

Simply sell other people’s inventory to your customers.

When you’re building an eCommerce store, remember that you’re selling products, not necessarily your own inventory. If you can structure your business model to just sell products and not inventory, then you avoid the risk of being stuck with a warehouse full of expensive inventory that won’t sell.

Inventory Arbitrage is a unique method in which you simply sell your vendor’s, manufacturer’s or reseller’s inventory.

Let’s say a product sells for $10 and your manufacturer charges $5 for it. When you receive an order, you collect the $10. Then you simply pay the $5 to your manufacturer, who ships the product directly to your customer. You make the $5 margin in between, just like that.

This is the least risky way to create an eCommerce store right from the get go.

It isn’t even difficult to find products to use this strategy with. Here are just a few places where you can buy inexpensive physical products – mostly from China – to sell in your country for a significantly higher price.

The Key Is Picking The Right Niche

There are profitable physical products to sell in every niche imaginable. 

That’s why the single most important factor in selecting a niche is finding something you’re passionate about.

If you’re not passionate about a niche you’re choosing to do business in, you’re basically just creating another 9-5 job for yourself.

  • Love dogs? There are thousands of products you can sell related to dogs.
  • Like cooking? Same thing.
  • How about yoga? You bet there are lots of products to sell!

Find a niche you’re passionate about and use that passion to fuel your success.

Choosing the Right Products to Sell

While just about every niche can be profitable, not every product in those niches will be.

To find a profitable product to sell, look for what people are actually buying. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel!

  • Go to and look for the bestsellers in the niche you’ve chosen
  • Check out, which reveals the top products selling on the eCommerce giant Ebay
  • Check out the Google Keyword Planner Tool, which comes with a free Google Adwords account. It will show you the most popular search terms, including physical products people are searching for

Identity what kinds of products are hot right now and start from there. If there is high demand for a specific product, that means many people are willing to buy it. It’s a lot easier to get people to buy products they want rather than products they don’t!

Again, you can find products through the resources I recommended earlier, such as Ali Express, DHgate and Doba.

Step 3: Generate Traffic

After you have a web presence and products to sell, the next step is to generate traffic. In order to sell anything, you need people to be aware that you’re out there. You need eyes on your website.

You know the old phrase “Build it and they will come?”

Well that definitely does NOT apply to eCommerce.

A common misconception today is that if you put up a website, hordes of hungry customers will automatically find you. This just isn’t the case. These days, with billions of websites out there, yours is just a drop in the digital bucket.

Luckily, there are many ways to drive traffic to your website. There are literally dozens of tactics and tools to generate traffic, both free and paid. But in order to succeed, you must focus.

While many different strategies can work, there is one that I’ve found is by far the most effective for anyone getting into eCommerce.

Traffic Control

Here’s a key point: If you can control your traffic, you can control your sales and the longevity of your business.

So how do you control your traffic? The answer is advertising. But not just any advertising. You don’t want to blindly advertise and just throw your money away.

When it comes to targeted advertising, the most effective tool is Facebook. Facebook is now becoming one of the largest advertising platforms out there.

The reason for this is that Facebook gives you the ability to target people that express interest in your niche. You can target Facebook ads to people who like your specific niche, which is every advertiser’s dream.

You can do this on Google Adwords as well, but Facebook is a much easier platform to start with.

Facebook ads are easy to use, easy to implement and they start at just $5. That’s why my advice is start with Facebook advertising and expand from there.

At the end of the day, mastering traffic can open up limitless possibilities for an eCommerce business. It’s what brings in customers, and those customers bring in revenue.

Even with customers, your work is not yet done…

Step 4: Multiply Your Profits

Once you have the first three steps lined up, it’s time to multiply your profits.

The secret to multiplying profits is simply increasing your average order size.

If customers come to your website and make 1 small purchase, that’s fine, but you’re leaving A LOT of money on the table. People who are successful in eCommerce capitalize on this opportunity with a simple but powerful strategy: creating a sales funnel.

How To Create A Sales Funnel

A sales funnel is essentially a sequence that entices customers to buy more. This might consist of things like giving a coupon away, creating upsells or generating more sales on the backend.

Funnel Trick 1: Host A Giveaway

One way to stand out from your competitors and bring customers to your website is to give something away or offer a steep discount.

When a customer takes advantage of a discount, they’re already making a micro-commitment. While it’s difficult to get someone to buy from you the first time, it’s EASY to get them to buy from you again once they’ve already made a purchase of any easy.

This psychological process is one way to “grease the wheels” on the buying process, and offering special deals is a great way to take advantage of it.

Funnel Trick 2: Create an Upsell Sequence

An upsell is an offer that is a higher cost add-on in addition to the initial purchase.

The classic example of an upsell is ordering a burger at McDonald’s and the clerk asks, “Do you want fries with that?”

That one simple question was an upsell that increased McDonald’s profits by millions of dollars overnight WITHOUT having to do anything else (except serve the fries with the burger).

You can do the same thing at your eCommerce store. If a customer purchases 1 item from you, there is probably another item they’d be eager to buy along with it.

It’s important to capitalize on that period of time when your customers are in a buying mood, and there’s no better time once they’ve already bought something from you..

Funnel Trick 3: Use an Email Sales Funnel

Another means of creating a sales funnel is through email. There are many ways to do this, as email is one of the most useful tools for anyone with an online business.

On the front end, a sales funnel can be initiated by collecting someone’s email address when they come to your site. Even if they don’t purchase anything during their first visit, you can continue to communicate with them and eventually turn them into a customer.

On the back end, you can email customers after they made an initial purchase. When someone purchases a product from you, it’s highly likely that they’ll buy again. Following up with customers and getting them excited about other products can multiply profits exponentially.

Email is a powerful sales tool. It gives you the opportunity for direct communication with customers and potential customers that other mediums simply can’t touch.

The real money in any business is on the back end (meaning after a customer already makes an initial commitment or purchase). It’s important to have a solid follow-up process to take full advantage of this reality.

Though people may make purchases the first time they visit your website, this pales in comparison with the amount a customer you’ve already established rapport with will buy over time.

Multiplying profits by creating a sales funnel can lead to tremendous eCommerce success.

Step 5: Rinse & Repeat

Ok, so you’ve created a presence, found products to sell, generated traffic and multiplied your profits. What’s next? Rinse and repeat!

The first 4 steps are a tried and true process. If you’ve implemented all 4, you’ve learned the process and proven to yourself that you can do it. And, like all processes, this process is repeatable.

Here’s something else to keep in mind. By duplicating the process, profits can duplicated as well!

There are several ways to duplicate the process. Remember how I mentioned scalability before? Repeating the process is a means of scaling up.

More stores >> More products >> More traffic >> More funnels

This might sound like a lot of work, but it doesn’t have to be. Remember, you are building a BUSINESS, not creating a new job for yourself.

As you generate profits and look to scale, you can hire virtual assistants on freelance websites like and to maintain your existing store while you implement the process again. That creates massive opportunities to scale and grow.

Here are a few ways to repeat the process and scale up.

Repeat and Go Premium

You can scale up by seeking out premium manufacturers that sell higher cost items who also fulfill your customer’s orders. In doing so, you will be selling premium products for higher profits.

One option is to sell your store when it’s profitable.

If you start making, say, $500 a month on a website, there are opportunities to sell it for thousands of dollars. $500 per month is easily achievable in the world of eCommerce and most likely, if you follow the steps, you’ll be making much more than that*. So if you do a little extrapolation, LOTS of money can be made just by selling an eCommerce website.

Once you sell it, guess what? You can create another one and sell that too, then do it again and again. It will only get easier the more you do it.

Take Action

While I’ve provided you with all of the information necessary to start your very own eCommerce business, there is 1 missing ingredient: Action.

As Johann Wolfgang von Goethe famously said, “Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.”

It’s all laid out, step-by-step. All you have to do is implement it and you will be able to create your own eCommerce business.

  1. Create a presence. Create a website for your eCommerce business. As we discussed, there are platforms that make it incredibly easy to do so.
  2. Get products to sell. Choose a niche you’re passionate about, find out what’s selling and sell the same products or something similar.
  3. Generate traffic. Get people to actually come to your website. And not just anyone, bring in the right people who will actually buy from you.
  4. Multiply your profits. Create sales funnels and use the power of the upsell to greatly increase profits.
  5. Then, just rinse & repeat.

Many people LOVE anything technology related. A large percentage of people not only buy electronics and gadgets; they’re looking for INFORMATION about how to use what they’ve bought effectively.

Therefore, training and software products for devices – smartphones, tablets, computers – as well as games, productivity apps and other tools, can all work well for digital publishing.

These are just 5 examples of strong niches with powerful emotions attached to them. This is just the tip of the iceberg for niches you can start a successful digital publishing business in. Hopefully this short list gets your creative juices flowing!

To have a digital publishing business, you need an information product. As you’ll see, they aren’t that tough to create.

However, you need to be smart about what kind of product you create.

Here’s a mistake many marketers make: after picking their niche, many people want to jump straight into creating their product. This is a big mistake, because you’ll end up creating a product you like rather than a product your customers actually want.

Guess what happens when you create a product your customers don’t want? They don’t buy, and you don’t make any money.

And that’s not what anyone wants!

I can’t tell you how many ideas I’ve had that I thought would be great… but when I did my research, I discovered that the customers I wanted to target had no interest in it.

Sometimes I did them anyway, and guess what… they all flopped.


It’s important to invest some time to discover what your customers truly want so you can create a product that directly addresses their needs.

Before you even think about creating your first product, you should have answers to these questions…

  1. What are your customers’ biggest challenges?
  2. What circumstances cause your customers to seek out information in your niche?
  3. What changes would your customers like to see in their lives?

The answers to these 3 questions shape EVERYTHING, from product creation to your marketing.

With that in mind, here are some specific ways to discover answers to those questions and uncover what your customers truly want.

Information Product Research Tips

Research Tip 1: Model Off Successful Products

Research shouldn’t be that hard…

There are many digital products in your niche right now that are successful. Someone has invested time and money in developing those products, discovering what your potential customers want, and creating sales materials to sell them.

You should find these products and learn as much as you can from them.

As you look at their sales material, ask yourself…

  1. What challenges are they addressing?
  2. What benefits are they promising to deliver?
  3. What is the price?
  4. Are there upsells?

Before you create your product, you should know the answers to these questions. Looking at what other successful people in your niche have done is the best place to start this search.

While you should never copy what someone else does, the best marketers are great at modeling what works and putting their own spin on it.

Research Tip 2: Check Out Forums

Forums are communities where people from all around the world come together to discuss a topic. There are forums in all the niches I discussed above, along with just about every niche imaginable.

On these forums you will discover what your customers talk about to each other. You’ll see:

  • What problems come up
  • What questions they ask, and
  • What solutions they seek

That is EXACTLY what you need to know before creating your product!

You can find forums by doing a simple Google search. Type in ‘“your niche” + forum’” and you’ll get all kinds of options.

You can also go to Reddit, which is basically a mega-forum with “sub-reddits” on every topic imaginable.

With all these resources, you should have no problem discovering the challenges your customers are facing.

Research Tip 3: You Could Always Ask

The most direct way to find out what your customers want is to ask them.

I know, what a shocking idea!

Seriously though, I have had some of my biggest “a ha” moments from surveys I’ve sent out to my customers.

If you have an email list or a social media following, you can send them an email asking “tell me what your biggest challenges are.” If you need to offer a bribe, so be it. Most of the time, you won’t even have to though.

You’ll be shocked at how many of your customers will LOVE the opportunity to tell you about the kind of content they’re looking for.

Just ask, listen, and be prepared to act on what you discover.

The #1 skill to marketing success is empathy, and that begins with taking the time to learn as much about your customers as possible.

Now It’s Time To Create Your Product

The core of digital publishing businesses are information products. They are courses designed to give your customers the information they need to solve their biggest challenges.

The core of digital publishing businesses are information products. These are basically packages of information.

If you are able to produce and market a solid set of information products, you can be a digital publisher. However, if you’re NOT able to produce information products in the first place, then success as a digital publisher becomes almost impossible.

The good news is that with modern technology, it’s easy to produce high-quality information products. In many cases, you can produce a full-fledged product in just a couple of days.

There are 3 types of digital products we’ll discuss here: Written, Audio, and Video.

3 Digital Product Types

You can be successful with any of them, so go with whichever one you can create a quality product with FAST!

Option 1: Written

The most common type of information products is in written form, including:

  • eBooks
  • Reports
  • Newsletters
  • Worksheets
  • Blogs
  • And more

It’s easy to create written content on word processing platforms like Microsoft Word, Apple iPages, Scrivner, Google Docs, and Open Office (which is FREE!).

If you don’t like to write, no problem!

You can use an inexpensive transcription service like or the dictation software built into your operating system to SPEAK your content.

This is the easiest type of content to create, but it is still highly valuable. eBook sales continue to climb each year, and there is no sign they are slowing down any time soon.

Option 2: Audio

Another type of information product is in audio form. These include:

  • Podcasts
  • Audio Lessons
  • Special Music
  • Guided Meditations
  • And more

I know what you’re thinking: “That sounds great, but how do I create audio that doesn’t sound awful?

It’s a fair question. Not too long ago, it cost A LOT of money to produce decent quality audio. Those days are long gone.

Today, with a few simple tools, you can create high-quality audio that sounds as good as or even better than what would have cost thousands of dollars to create in the not too distant past.

So what do you need to create good audio content?

You Simply Need 2 Things To Create Great Audio Content

A good microphone and software.

If you go on Amazon and type in “podcast microphone,” you’ll find many excellent USB microphones for under $200! Some are even under $100 and give you pretty good quality.

In terms of software, your best bet is the FREE software Audacity. This free piece of sound editing software fulfills most of your sound editing needs. It’s easy to use and gives you terrific results.

Audacity is just 1 example of audio software that is free or inexpensive.

While in the past you needed to rent out studio space to create audio with acceptable quality, with these programs, you can create excellent audio content for pennies, or even nothing at all!

Option 3: Video

Video content is easy to create. It also has the highest perceived value.

What many people don’t realize is that it is possible to create fantastic video content for very little money. All you need is a computer and a microphone you can buy for under $200. In some cases, the internal microphone on your computer is good enough.

I can already hear you…

Wait, what do you mean all you need to create fantastic video content is a computer and a microphone? What about a video camera?

It’s simple. Some of the best video content that makes up the core of the most successful digital products out there are called kinetic videos. These are videos with information on the screen and a narrator presenting that information.

At its core, it’s a recorded PowerPoint presentation.

All you need to do to create a fantastic kinetic video is to create a PowerPoint presentation and use an inexpensive screen capture program like ScreenFlow or Camtasia to record yourself giving the presentation.

That’s it!

You now have video content you can feature in your digital product.

It really is that simple, especially because those 2 programs are easy to use. They take care of most of the technical stuff for you.

For example, they have automatic audio filters that will take out the background noise from your audio recording to make it sound more professional. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than what most people could have done with expensive stuff 15 years ago.

While kinetic videos are all you need to create great video content, you can take it a step further and actually record yourself presenting information. You could go out and buy a video camera… or you can just use your smartphone.

The point is that creating excellent video content is NOT difficult.

Like audio and written content, you have no excuses. If you have valuable information to share, you can create a fantastic product.

If you’ve done your research…

  • You should know exactly what kind of product to create.
  • You know what your customer’s biggest challenges are.
  • You know what changes they want in their lives.

Just give them the information they need to do that.

If you aren’t an expert yourself, no problem…

TIP: You can even interview experts in your niche and turn those interviews into a product. That’s right, you don’t need to be an expert in your niche – you just need to find an expert, interview them, and package those interviews into a product!

Now, It’s Time To Assemble Your Offer

A great product isn’t enough.

People don’t buy products – they buy offers.

Offer: Your product + bonuses

Every successful digital publisher is a master at creating offers. That means taking your main product and adding bonuses to make it a compelling, impossible to refuse package that delivers tremendous results to your customers.

For example, my best-selling product is Inbox Blueprint. At its core is comprehensive email marketing training. The training is great, but it’s the bonuses around it that really sell it.

You need to create your own set of bonuses to include with your main product. I like to include at least 3 bonuses with every offer, since that will allow you to charge a higher price for your product.

Now that you have your product, let’s position yourself to make some money.

Funnels are what separate amateur marketers from effective ones. They’re what will make your product profitable or a flop.

So what are these all important funnels?

Funnels: A sequence of offers you present to your customers.

Let me show you an example…

Most digital publishers create a product, put up a sales page to promote it, and drive traffic to that page. It looks something like this…

No Funnel

When traffic lands on your page, they either buy or they leave. If they buy, you make some money and never see them again. If they leave, you also never see them again.

You’re also unlikely to make many sales because those visitors have no idea who you are and during your first interaction with them, you asked them for money.

Now let’s add 2 simple steps to the buying process and see if this dynamic changes.

First, we’ll add an opt-in page.

Opt-In Page: Simple one page website where you deliver a free gift in exchange for the visitor’s email address.

You’ve come across these pages before. Here’s an example…

Those pages are easy to create. The ONLY goal of this page is to get people to commit to getting your free report so we want to make the page super simple.

Second, we’ll add a profit multipler.

Profit Multiplier: An additional offer that follows a sale.

Now your basic funnel looks like this…

As you can see, instead of sending someone directly to your sales page, you are instead sending them to your opt-in page.

Even if they don’t know who you are, there’s a decent chance they’ll give you their email address in exchange for the free gift you’re offering them.

In fact, most of my opt-in pages have over a 50% conversion rate.

After they opt-in, they’re taken to your sales page. They have the opportunity to buy your product. If they buy, you make money and they go to your upsell offer, where you can make even more money from that purchase.

If they DON’T buy your main product, that’s not a problem because you still got their email address on the opt-in page. That means you are able to still communicate with them.

Here’s something you might find interesting…

The MAJORITY of my sales actually come from sending follow up emails to people who do not initially buy products when they land on my sales page.

This is one of the simplest ways to boost the revenue from a digital publishing business.

This is a simple but powerful example of a sales funnel. You are taking your customers through a process where they have multiple opportunities to engage with you, either through purchasing an offer or giving you their contact information.

By designing sales funnels, you increase your chances to maximize profits and build an audience of devoted fans. This is when digital publishing businesses really take off.

Step #4: Getting Your Digital Product Into The Hands & Minds Of The Market

After you sell your product, you need a way to get it into the hands of your customers.

In the past you had to learn how to code and build a website to deliver your product. Now it is EASY.

  • You don’t have to code
  • You don’t need to build a website
  • You don’t even need to personally track your sales!

There are amazing tools available that will deliver your products to your customers AUTOMATICALLY. These tools even deny access if a customer asks for a refund or if there are payment issues.

Some of these automated solutions include…

  • Clickfunnels
  • Wishlist
  • Kajabi
  • ValueAddon

Setting them up is as easy as clicking a few buttons. If I had these tools available to me 14 years ago, I would have saved countless hours and could have gotten to the making money part much faster!

Step 5: Messaging To Convert

Once you create your product and set up a funnel, you need to sell it.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen someone spend months creating an AMAZING product, only to see it make no sales because that person refused to invest any time into creating great sales material.

You don’t have to be a master at sales and marketing to sell your information product. If you followed the directions in step 2 to discover what your customers truly want, the sales copy should write itself.

However… you DO need to spend time to make your sales message as powerful as possible.

There Are 3 Ways To Sell Your Product…

Sales Option 1: Written Sales Letter

Written sales letters are the simplest way to sell your product. They look something like this…

Your sales letters should educate the reader about why they should invest in your product. You tell them what they need to solve their challenges, but not how to do it (that’s what your product does!).

It All Starts With A Compelling Headline

Your headline will make or break your sales letter because if it does not hook their attention, they will not read anything below it.

You sales letter should be broken up into sections with subheadlines that speak directly to your customers biggest challenges and frustrations.

You should also tell stories to connect with the reader on an emotional level.

When you do talk about your product, focus on the benefits it will provide and not just its features.

Example Feature: Air conditioning
Example Benefit: The temperature will be comfortable on a hot summer day

Some written sales letters are less than a page long, while others can be over 20 pages. It depends on what you’re selling.

In general, the higher the price, the longer your sales letters should be.

The reason is simple: the more money you’re asking, the more value you need to provide first.

Written sales letters work for all kinds of offers, but they are most effective when you are selling an offer under $37.

Sales Option 2: Video Sales Letter

Video sales letters are just like written sales letters except they are in, you guessed it, video form.

Usually these are power point presentations that you record using a screen capture software like Screenflow, Camtasia or Screencast-o-Matic.

The best video sales letters look BORING. Black text, white background. They will convert just as well as many fancier-looking ones. It’s almost like they create a hypnotic effect on the viewer.

While they might look boring, the copy is anything but. The same rules of written sales letters apply to video sales letters.

  • You need to HOOK the viewers attention right from the beginning.
  • You need to tell stories to connect with them.
  • You need to speak to their challenges and problems.
  • You need to tell them what they need to do to resolve their challenges, and you need to sell the benefits of your product.

Video sales letters work best for mid-ticket offers. The exact numbers will be different from niche to niche, but generally we’re talking about offers that cost between $37-$97.

To create either a written or video sales letter, you do NOT need to know how to make websites!

Sales Option 3: Webinars

I’m a big fan of webinars. I use them to sell most of my products nowadays.

Here’s an example of a page I use to promote one of my 3-part webinars…

That’s because I sell high-ticket offers, which generally cost more than $197.

Sales webinars are live events where you teach your customers on a particular topic. For example, if you are promoting a product about weight lifting, you might host a webinar on 5 amazing exercises to develop your biceps.

During that webinar, you will deliver amazing content to the attendees and at the end promote your product.

By delivering so much value to the attendees, you will…

  • Establish credibility
  • Establish trust
  • Establish reciprocity

That makes them likely to want to invest in a product you’re offering. Even if they don’t buy, that’s ok – they got a lot of value and are still more likely to buy from you in the future.

Once you’ve created a quality product and set up your funnels, you are well on your way to building your digital publishing business.

However, “if you build it, they will come” doesn’t quite work. You need to put in some work to generate “traffic” – people who will be checking your stuff out.

There are 2 types of traffic, and both are exactly what they sound like…

Paid Traffic: Traffic that you pay money for.
Free Traffic: Traffic that you don’t pay money for.

That doesn’t mean that free traffic doesn’t have a cost.

With free traffic, you have to invest time instead of money. It usually takes longer to see results, and you will have to put in many hours to make it work.

With paid traffic, you pay someone money and traffic comes into your funnel.

Which should you use? I recommend BOTH!

Let’s talk about some great sources for each…

Best Sources Of Free Traffic


Blogs are the center of most free traffic systems. They’re easy to create websites that people come to get content on a particular topic.

If you create your own blog, consistently post new content (VERY IMPORTANT), and spread the word on the other free traffic sources below, you will start attracting traffic from search engine traffic and social media shares.

Likewise, commenting on other people’s blogs can help bring people to your content. If you are able to provide useful feedback on a popular post that generates thousands of hits, then you will have lots of eyeballs on you and the site you link to on your profile.


Remember forums? This is where people go to discuss certain topics. They’re not just great for niche research – they’re also great for traffic.

If you position yourself as an expert on forums in your niche, then you can draw people into your funnels. Best of all, you don’t have to spend any money!

That’s why forums are a fantastic source of traffic.

Another great tool for driving traffic to your products is social media. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are places where people come together to make connections and share content.

If you create shareable content and create compelling profiles on these sites, then social media can be a great tool to build your audience.


YouTube is another terrific source of free traffic. YouTube is one of the most popular websites online. It is also the second largest search engine in the world.

Here’s my YouTube page! People searching for how to build an online empire, how to build a digital publishing business, or simply some motivational videos may come across my information 🙂

That means if you are able to create and promote videos on it, you can carve out a tiny piece of that traffic pie – which can be HUGE!


Writing and publishing a free eBook on Amazon Kindle can also generate free traffic to your website.

Millions of people browse the Kindle marketplace for eBooks.

Here I just typed in “Personal Development eBooks” and I got 47,916 results.

If you offer an inexpensive eBook with fantastic content, then promoting your products in the eBook is a great way to drive free traffic to your website!


If you have an email list or subscribers on your blog, you can leverage that audience by swapping emails or blog posts with another person with a large following. Basically you’re saying to them “I’ll promote your stuff if you promote mine.”

Most people will take that deal, making this an effective way to bring people into your funnel.


Another way to generate free buzz AND traffic to your product is to get a respected person or website in your niche to review your product.

One positive review to a large enough audience can open up a flood of traffic to your product.

The next level of this is to pay them a commission for every sale they generate for you, which is known as affiliate marketing. There are marketplaces like Clickbank that make it easy to set up these affiliate programs.

As you can see, if you are on a shoestring budget, there are all kinds of ways to generate traffic. You just need to be willing to invest your time and be persistent.

While these free traffic sources are great, I do recommend mixing it with paid traffic as well. If you ARE willing to invest some money into traffic, here my 2 favorite sources.

Paid Traffic Source 1: Email Media

There are email marketers out there with hundreds of thousands of people on their lists that would be happy to send an email to their subscribers on your behalf… for a fee, of course!

The best kinds of email media are solo ads.

Solo ads are dedicated emails that email marketers send to their subscribers to promote your website. Solo ads are awesome because you’re able to put your message in front of people who are eager to get the kind of information you’re offering.

Best of all, you only pay for each click you get, which would be like only paying for a TV commercial when someone who watched that commercial walks into your store.

A fantastic website to buy solo ads (which also happens to be one I’m a partner of, yes a shameless plug!) is – a solo ad marketplace with hundreds of vendors selling solo ads in every niche imaginable.

For many digital publishers, the easiest and fastest way to get traffic is to buy some solo ads and send them into your funnel – ideally to an opt-in page.

You’ll get actual data on whether or not your funnel works and whether you should keep investing in it.

Paid Traffic Source 2: Facebook Advertising

One of the most popular sources of paid traffic is Facebook advertising. If done right, it’s terrific.

Facebook is a massive website with over a billion active users. That’s an insane amount of people!

I have my ear to the ground in Internet marketing circles, and most of the action is happening on Facebook now. That’s because Facebook has a huge audience along with remarkable targeting capabilities.

Once you master Facebook, you can put your ad in front of the right people at an almost scary level.

Facebook’s targeting is so good that you can target your ads by traits like age, gender, relationship status, and even interests.

Best of all, you can get a campaign going at a low cost and scale it up when you find something that works.

HOWEVER, before diving into Facebook you need to get the right training.

Facebook is picky about what kind of websites you can promote, so staying compliant is super important. At the very least, study Facebook’s ad policies before running your first ad, so your account doesn’t get banned.

At this point, the possibilities are endless. You can turn your digital publishing business into whatever you want it to be.

Remember, this is about YOU and YOUR PASSIONS.

  • Do you want to go deeper with your customers? Create additional training and sell it to them.
  • Do you want to spend more time with your family, quit your job and/or travel the world? Keep refining your funnel to make it more profitable and drive more traffic.
  • Do you want to start working with people one-on-one? Add coaching and consulting services to your funnel.
  • Do you want to make more money without creating more products? Find other amazing products in your niche and start promoting them as an affiliate.

You can even find other experts in your niche and publish them! There are so many important messages out there that no one ever hears because they don’t know anything about marketing. Once you master digital publishing, you can help them get their message out.

  • Then just add 1 page for the intro and 1 page for the conclusion, and there it is – a 50-page eBook!
  • Each day, go through your list of sub-topics, pick out 5 that you feel like writing about, and write 1 page for each of them.

Do that, and you can have a 50 page eBook done in just 10 days. That’s really all there is to it!

Now, if you want to write a 100-page eBook…

Just double everything! Write down a list of 24 or 25 topics and have 4 sub-topics for each.

If you want to write a 20-page eBook…

Like a free report or something along those lines, then just write down a list of 5 topics and 4 sub-topics for each.

Just play around with the numbers to create the length eBook you want, and what your prospects and customers would want to read! Soon, they’ll be lining up to get their hands on a copy!

No problem, just use a transcription service like

I use it all the time. I simply dictate what I want to say in my eBook. Then I get it produced in a fraction of the time (and for a low price). I make any edits I want and I’m good to go!
